Microsoft Teams is a unified communications platform that combines persistent workplace chat, video meetings, file storage (including collaboration on files), and application integration. Together with the Office 365 subscription, it offers a complete meeting environment for companies and businesses.
Microsoft Teams is an entirely new solution developed by Microsoft and is slowly rolling out to the market as the successor for Skype for Business. Microsoft Teams is an entirely new solution and is not cross compatible with Skype for Business. That means that companies will use the Skype of Business or Microsoft Teams platform. Please be aware that some customer can run a hybrid model called Island (as a temporary transition phase), but that option is not available for all customers. Check with your Microsoft representative your possibilities with regards to Island mode.
Leddura 2Meet Skype for Business is fully developed based on Microsoft Skype for Business. The Skype for Business API's are different from the Microsoft Teams ones and therefore you cannot use the Leddura 2Meet Skype for Business in a Microsoft Teams environment. To cover the Microsoft Teams needs for our current and new Leddura 2Meet users, we are developing an entirely new application. The Leddura 2Meet Teams version is planned to be available in June 2019. Keep reading our newsletters and check our social media accounts.
Our recommendation is to treat a migration from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams as a big IT project with all necessary required preparation and execution steps. In case you have the Leddura 2Meet Skype for Business and you want to migrate already with your company to Microsoft Teams, check if you can run Island mode where Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams are running as two different environments. Each user will be capable of using Skype or Teams based on their needs, but only in their enclosed environments. Messaging will work between Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams while video conferencing is NOT possible. If the Island mode is not available, take into consideration that Leddura 2Meet Skype for Business cannot be integrated with Microsoft Teams unit the new product with Microsoft Teams compatibility software is released.
Leddura 2Meet Skype for Business will work flawlessly in Skype for Business environment for video conferencing, meetings and screen mirroring. Migrating to Microsoft Teams will make Leddura 2Meet Skype for Business unusable for video conferencing. Screen sharing (MirrorOp or Voila) will continue working as expected. Whiteboard and internet browser will retain all functionality because they are using the Microsoft Exchange server (Outlook) and the Chromium browser.
Microsoft offers a complete guide on how to migrate from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams, where the migration project should take every device in the network into account making use of Skype for Business accounts.
